Philosophy
Dr. Friedlander believes that
informed patients make the best surgical decisions. She listens to her patients
carefully, then provides clear and comprehensive information so they approach
surgery fully informed about their options. The decision to undergo plastic
surgery is an important one and should never be rushed.
Expertise,
Training, and Education
Using her more than 15 years of experience, Dr. Friedlander performs a
variety of cosmetic and reconstructive procedures, but focuses on facial
rejuvenation and body contouring as well as surgery of the breast. She has been
quoted in local and national magazines, as well as newspapers, as an expert in plastic surgery.
Dr. Friedlander grew up in Tennessee, but has resided in the Tri-State area
for over three decades. She attended medical school at the State University of
New York and completed a full general surgery training program in four years,
rather than the usual, five. She continued with her plastic surgery training at
the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx before
entering private practice in 1987. She is Board Certified in both general
surgery and plastic surgery, although she limits her practice exclusively to
plastic surgery. She has privileges at several local hospitals, including
Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ, Saint Barnabas Hospital in Livingston, NJ, and
the Ambulatory Care Center in Livingston, NJ.
Professional Societies and Leadership
Dr. Friedlander is a member of the
American Society of Plastic Surgery as
well as the prestigious American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. She is a
fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the International College of
Surgeons and has remained active in these, and other, medical societies at the state
and regional levels.
Dr. Friedlander has been on the
staff of Overlook Hospital since entering private practice. She was Chief of the
Plastic Surgery Section from 1996-1999 and currently
serves as the Vice Chairperson of the Department of Surgery at Overlook Hospital.
As one of only a small percentage of Board Certified plastic surgeons who are
women, she is firmly committed to ensuring that all women have access to breast
health care. She has been active in the American Cancer Society for many years
working tirelessly in their Breast Outreach programs to ensure all
underprivileged women and senior citizens have access to care and treatment. As a member of the Susan G. Komen Foundation speaker's
bureau, she is
a frequent speaker at both public and medical events and has been quoted in
national and regional magazines as an expert in breast surgery.
Honors
 Dr.
Friedlander was honored by her peers when she was voted a top doctor in New
Jersey. She has appeared in the Castle Connolly Guide of “Top Doctors in
the New York Metropolitan Area” for several years.

What Does It Mean To Be
Board Certified?
Board
certification is a "stamp of approval" that a surgeon's cosmetic
surgery skills are up to the rigorous standards set by the members of the American
Board of Medical Specialties (the only recognized board of its kind). These
surgeons are required to take exhaustive written and oral examinations which demonstrate
their competence and skills. Certification is awarded by the American
Board of Plastic Surgery to the doctors who are trained, not only in cosmetic
and reconstructive surgery, but who have extensive training in addition to
plastic surgery resulting in skills and knowledge that go far beyond a specific
area. This broad knowledge attained through many years of surgical residency and
experience can
make a substantial difference in the outcome of your surgery and makes these
select doctors uniquely qualified to perform cosmetic surgery of the face and body. Dr.
Friedlander is such a surgeon.
